Theoretical Exercise Only, OK...?

I've often wondered what would happen if you cross referenced some engine parts catalogs and threw a set of competion/HD rods & pistons, a little milling hear & there, Meebey' offset grinding the crank, relocating the pins higher for just a tad more stroke?

Bigger valves & a full on portjob with multi angle valve job? Custom cam, of course.

And if you wanted to go further:

Sheetmetal intake or extrude-hone the factory piece. Adapt a bigger T-Body, Bigger injectors?

Of course I've always thought these engines just scream for someone to put a turbo on.

Justa' a thought...

Drop a Cat diesel in there. That should solve your torque issue.

Take up the slack in the motor mounts by chaining the left side of the motor to the frame-so the motor wont move. (hardened steel links)
-you'll send more torque out to the rear.

now i never heard that one before.

we used to use a chain to keep the motor mount from breaking, i guess it could transfer some torque to the rear.

I gotta 94 with 46,000 miles and got the 2-into-1 intake boot from a V-8 truck, and added a piece of pipe and a clamp on filter in place of the stock box. I also removed the smog pump, the second cat, and poked out the first one and run a single inlet, dual outlet flowmaster (pretty quiet) and noticed a decent improvement, but nothing to make it any more "thrilling".....And the mileage seemed to improve, to boot.

I think next I'm gonna smooth out the butterflies and shaft in the throttle body and add a spacer.

the spacer is a waste of time.

And there is a lengthy, detailed thread in the supercharger/turbocharger/nitrious section of FTE where a guy built a turbocharged 300. It's a good read even if one isn't going to copy the concept.

I would imagine as with most engines, you'd limit your RPMs a bit but have more torque in the lower RPMs. Since the 300 isn't a screamer anyway, I don't see how this would be bad conceptionally in any way. To me the 300 behaves much like a big block - large bores, heavy rods, decent stroke as starting material. Just two less cylinders.

Thats pretty much how I see it. You don't have to spin a 385 series to the moon to get good power & torque.

I know the big six is not rev-happy, but I've often wondered how it would respond to a good blue-print & some quality light weight/HD internals. Add a few more traditional Hotrodding techniques & it should be surprising.

I'll have to look up that thread.
