Lots of great action going on in this thread. Ive got a complete Mark VIII suspension install package up for grabs, check it out in the classifieds. Local to NJ prefered. Not going to use the IRS and am liquidating a ton of parts.

There are several running around now. A search for CV IFS swap should yield some pics. You might also check out Team321 LLC Ford Truck Independent Rear Suspension (321)960-5945 dheld@cfl.rr.com. Dave has built a set & was looking for folks to install & give him feedback.

I like the idea of the ifs. Is the width the same as the cv front end?

The cv front end is wider than the stock front end but it still tucks the wheels inside the fenders

I'm talking about the independent rear suspension. I already have the cv front end installed and I am wondering if the rear would be narrower. I want to be able to use the newer mustang wheels on the front and rear.

I was also wondering if anyone has built a bumpside using all the parts off a p71. I have taken on this task and seems to be working out nicely. The only problem I had was the driveshaft until I found the same one but 70" instead of 56" off a 90 f150 8' bed regular cab. I reused the p71 u joints and everything.

The MN 12 IRS is narrower than a '03-'11 CV IFS. I can not imagine not having wheels custom built but I suppose you could use spacers to move stock wheels outboard. You are aware the bolt pattern on the MN 12 is smaller than the CV correct? You can use hubs from the Cobra IRS to get the same bolt circle. You will also need the Cobra rotors which are something like 11.6". To use the same calipers you will require adapter brackets.

You can have your hubs and rotors or drums (the MN 12 came with both) redrilled as an alternative. There is a guy running around the Net using the CV rear axle under his truck. Not sure why you would require a different driveshaft. All I had to do was change the rear U Joint when I put the MN 12 in my truck. I do need a new driveshaft now as I have swapped in a 460/C6

I am using the 4.6 aod 8.8 and everything else out of the p71. My truck is a longbed and the p71 shaft was 14" to short but a 90 f150 has a 4" shaft that is perfect length. $25 from salvage yard verses $300 custom

Hey bumpsidep71: Have you got a CV rear end handy? I need the (width overall) measurement from outside of tire to outside of tire with cop wheels and tires.
I also want to use both ends of the donor car.
TIA
Eric

I believe the rear axle from a 03 and up is 70 in but 02 and lower is 64 and a half and that is what I am using

It's the same width as the P71 front end. I got my box on now so you can see how it fits. Looks like I will have take the lip out on the wheel wells and then you have clearance.

Measured mine too

I agree it will fit (mine's a '66) - just barely - if the lip is cut away. I also measured a pre-2003 Town Car, got 73.5" tire-to-tire, and that's with deep-dish wheels, so there's a big difference between 2002 and '03. Too much to use the "flat" late wheel and spacers I think, to get the rear track to closely match the front. Some junkyard measuring without wheels is in order...
