I haven't measured it yet, but from what I've read it seems like the nibs sticking up are 3/4"-1" in front of axle CL. One of the threads in the 61-66 forum states the holes need to be drilled that distance in front of the bumpstop holes, which themselves ought to be pretty close to the axle cl...

ok got the old front end out, the bottom of the frame straightened up and the new setup mocked in yesterday and the measurements i was getting was that the pin on the CV setup was 3/4" Behind axle center line. now heres were im gona loose everyone, im going to be shifting the CV setup 3/4" forword in order to hopefully fit the 4.6 in without having to modify the firewall, its going to be very tight but i should have a lil more than 1/4" from the back of the motor and the firewall if all my measuments were right. so ill be mounting the CV pin dead on the old axle centerline. ive mocked it up this way also and you really cant even tell it was shifted up in the wheel well, if anything i actually thing it looks slightly better.

I should have the front end fully mounted in this weekend then pulled back out again to box and paint the frame next weekend.

Yeah, let us know how that works out - I was surprised when I found the nub was behind the axle cl since what i'd read previously said the new hole should be about .75" in front of the old bump stop hole, which would make the new axle cl 1.75" further fwd than stock.
Now I know Grant @ CCT mag moved his that far forward when he did his M2 front end, but he was going really low... good luck & please post some pics!
I need to unload the carcass of my cv before I can get to this stage...

What crown vics have this particular cross member and is there a difference in wheel base width on a PI vs. a stnadard cv. Thanks in advance

Cool. Looks like you're leap-frogging ahead of me. I might suggest that you start a new thread for your buildup & leave this thread as Randy's. Looking forward to seeing (or at least reading) about your experience.

I found this thread last night after many nights of research looking for a front suspension option for my `58 F100 stepside. I had first thought about the S10 frame swap (I've done them many times before), but thought it was too narrow for this wide truck. I also saw the Ranger and Dakota frame swap threads. I was leaning toward the Dakota when I found this one. AWESOME! The CV will be the way to go. My donor car for the `58 is a `94 Mark VIII. It will give up the 4.6 DOHC, part of the interior, and the IRS. I will be searching the junkyards tomorrow for the correct CV for the front suspension. Many kudos and thanks to all of you that have contributed to this thread. My sleepless nights are cured. My truck project will be started soon! Thanks again....

He's using the '94 Mark VIII for the drive train, rear suspension and interior, not the front suspension. He said he's going to search for a CV front suspension.
