Lift block CV front end
Carcrafter your thread has inspired me to do the CV swap for my 60 F100. I was able to get an 03 front end for $225. I got mine by looking for the rear end for a CV because my search for a "engine cradle" ended with 0 in my NJ area. So I called about the rear and asked if he had the front end. I had the guy cut the frame right below the firewall. I am using the original hardware, and structural tubing for the cradle. The frame on the 60 is not flat on the bottom, so I am welding 3/8 flatbar on the bottom to even the frame out. This CV swap is not going to give me 5" drop as with the 67. I am going to end up with about 2" of drop because of the 50 year old springs ( sagged ) on the straight axle and the frame configuration. This will be great! Thanks for your help. Sorry if this not in the right place-- I'm the new guy (first posting)

CV IFS Swap 60 F100
New Guy here, The frame on the 60 is not flat on the bottom as is the 67 frame. My idea was to install a piece of flat bar ( 3/8 X 2 1/2 X 14 ) to the bottom of the frame and cut the frame where it begins to slope and weld it in place. Then drill the frame for centering pin and bolts. Then install my factory support "pipes" trimmed to size then box the frame. Attached is photo and my sketch of the proposed work. I am open to suggestions and or advise. Thanks for all the help so far on this thread. Andy

Just wanted to say that I have been following this thread since day one, and it has inspired me to change directions on my 70'. I'm chucking the (dare I say it, they were free) Chevy parts and may have scored an 03' CV p-71 for $165.00! I don't think i'll flood the board with another buildup thread, but i'll put some pic's on my profile. Thanks for all the tips, tricks, ideas! Love how nice your truck is coming out!

SS The wheels are stock 02 Mustang Bullit wheels 17X8's ( $350 set on craigs list) with my own custom touch to the center cap. Tires are 235 55 front 275 60 out back. I used a billet 2 inch spacer adapter in the rear to get the 5X4.5 bolt pattern. 9 inch rear is staying out back - 408 stroker with dual quads going in out front. I plan on lowering the back to make the truck sit level after the CV IFS. I just updated some pictures and add my garage to FTE. Thanks Andy

Looks great, stance already looks pretty good. I do like the looks of the 5 spoke rims. I am looking for 18s i think to put more of the rubber under the fender wells. What rim backspacing did you have to get for the front and is it different from the rear?

ss the wheels are stock Ford Mustang I think the offset is 35 mm and the backspacing is about 6 inches. They fit untouched on the front of the CV IFS- bringing the tires to the edge of the fender like I wanted. I am using the original 9inch rear, These wheels would not work without the 2 inch billet spacer with pattern change 5X5.5 to 5X4.5 this puts the tires also to the edge of the wheel opening like I wanted. Thanks Andy

Hello, new to the site. I am located in Phx, Az. and have been following this forum for awhile. I don't recall if it was mentioned, but the 2003+ Lincoln Town Cars have the same front suspension setup, but a couple more pieces are aluminum. (lower control arms, upper brace, etc.) I actually have a 2003 Town Car that I bagged and made a new cradle from scratch out of metal and bolted it in like the original cradle was. I did this to get lower and to narrow the track width so I could clear my fenders with the wheels.
I HAVE A 2003 CROWN VIC AVAILABLE IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. IT IS STILL IN THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. THE REAR AXLE IS AVAILABLE AS WELL. I also have JUST an aluminum cradle and front sway bar left over from my car. make offer... thanks.
Great build by the way, VERY informative.
