Question Header Troubles....HELP

I have a '77 F-150 4x4 Custom that has a 1975 360 in it. The stock exhaust manifolds on it are junk, and I'm trying to find a set of headers that will fit. I've been having trouble because no one can match a 360 in the year '77.

Was there a chassis change from 1976 to 1977? For Jegs that's the cut off, they sell headers for a 360 in a 1976 F150, and the guy on the tech line told me that they wouldn't fit my 1977. Any body have any ideas?

So I'm really curious if I should buy headers for the motor year and CI, or for the body year. I'm leaning towards the engine year and CI because that seems a little more logical, I just wanted some reinforcement on my brain storming.

Thanks guys!

Was the same series engine available after '76? How much did the truck change from '76 to '77? If the FE series wasn't offered after '76 then you could have a big problem, you'll definitely need the headers that match the motor, but it's anybody's guess if they'll fit on the truck.

SHORTIES................. In my recent experience with a 4x4, they worked perfectly because the Y pipes were there, and I just ordered them for the year of the engine and not the truck itself, worked out fine.... I had to use my ford precision alignment tool (hammer) to "adjust" the passenger side header a bit, but all in all, It worked out fine, I wish I had some photos, but I sold the truck.

I'm pretty sure there wasn't a frame change between the years, as motor towers, cabs, and just about everything interchange. Ford just quit offering the FE series, and changed the grill around.

It should be good with the 76 headers. The trucks didn't change that much if any underneath to 77-79.Engine mount towers are the major changes probably because the FE went away and the 351-400M took it's place.

Yeah, the towers changed, but the mounts never did.
