He probly has rediculously high gears that defeets the purpose of having a dually and drives prodominatly down hill with a tail wind.

If you let your truck breath with a freer flowing intake and exaust that should help also a tuner with an econ setting may help. What gears do you have? that can make a huge differance.

Soon to add 4" turbo back, Guages, and SCT with some tunes, and of course I would bet new headgaskets and studs when the truck tells me it needs them.

You know in the gmc guys defence its safe to say hes not the sharpest tool in the shed, he bought a duramax so he was probly looking at the fule milage display in cab while going down the high way and rolling off the throtle.

My first guess is that your buddy has no clue how to calculate mileage.

Typical GM Duramax is very much like the 6.0 - - Driven like an old Grandma, low teens in town, high teens on the highway.... MAYBE hit 20 mpg if you're lucky..... and you need to hold it down around 65 to get that.

Also, if he has a chip, that will often play with those numbers on the display..its a great thing if you want to tell your wife abotu the great investment of the new tuner....

i get 16 mpg on winter fuel with 50-50 driving and 19 mpg on summer blend fuel with 50-50 driving in my 04.5 dodge cummins. truck has bigger tires, about 200 lbs of gear in the truck box and a 12,000 lb winch hanging off of the front end.
