if you have the springs its pretty easy actually...I posted on how to put them hummers on a couple weeks ago...basicly the rear end of the spring end points inboard on each side. If you dont have one, get a piece of tubing of similar outside diameter as the front pin that the spring sits on. if the hoods on the truck get a helper to either hold it up at mx amount or remove it...with it off the truck you can get a good idea how loose/tight the hinges are...you really cant get too good of a guess with the spring on IMO.
when you get your tubing...I'd get a piece around 3 feet long...leverage is needed definately. on one end, cut down the center of the tubing about 1-1 1/2" then cut the half off leaving a halfpipe...dont think you can skate on it though :-)
put the cut open end over the front pin the spring goes on and with a C clamp or similar clamp it down making it form to the size of the pin. Put the spring on the rear as mentioned prior and using the pipe you just made and with a bit of oil for easier sliding push the bar forward and the spring will go on quite nicely...dont let its looks fool ya...unloading them is unloading a little bomb but going back on is easier though. the front end of the spring goes with the open end of the loop downward.
excercise caution and keep the kids away when you are putting the spring on.
I think DC sells new springs also... but am not 100% sure...
I hope this helps you out, cs65
