headers to single

hi, I've got a 79 f-150 with a 400 as soon as it thaws im going to do some work on my engine. what I was wondering is since my truck has new exaust with bad manifolds can I go with the single exaust with a v to the headers will this hurt performance considerably or not i'm going for torque. I'm also considering cutouts on the v. thank you

IM planning on getting rid of my headers and dual exhaust and putting factory manifolds back on mine with 2.25" from the manifolds down to a y pipe then to either a 3" or 3.5" exhaust.

As far as cutouts, unless you only want to make noise they arent worth it on a a mild built 400 in my opinion. My truck actually slowed down and lost power by opening the exhaust up so i took my cutouts off the truck.
