I've heard that when the over drive light flashes that is a warning sign for torque converter going bad.

Depending on the sub-section:

P-1728 {1}{2} Transmission Slip Error

P-1728 {3}{4} Transmission Slip Error
Conveter Clutch Failed

This is all that my code sheet tells me.

Not really, Its the "check engine light" for the transmission.

Excellent!!!

OP's

E4OD and 1728
The E4 can only set a 1728 while in OD.
While the trans is in OD the PCM monitors the motor RPM and VSS sig.
Its has a set parameter of RPM sig vs VSS sig. If the RPM sig is outside the parameter (higher) vs the VSS it will set the code and limp. The code set can be from the CPS all the way to the VSS. You can rule out the CPS if motor runs fine (no cps code). This leaves you from the TC to the VSS. If you have no issue with the speedo you can somewhat rule out the VSS. This leaves you with the TC to the tailshaft of the trans. This does not omit intermittent wire failures.
As Mark has stated in the other tread, its is very common in the E4 for it to be leak/crack ect in the TC. The code really does not pinpoint the issue. Just notifies you of it.

If you clear the code the trans will be fine until it sets it again.
The code will trip at shorter intervals as the issue elevates.

Bill
