Plug gap & MSD
Just finished installing complete MSD package, box, coil, wires, rotor, distributor cap. MSD gives no recommendations on plug gap other than to experiment!
Since it is a PIA to pull plugs thought I'd ask if anyone has found a good range to start at from the stock setting. With the stock setting have pretty good performance, but no apparent change in MPG. Also it wants to ping at stock timing setting, did anyone reset (retard) theirs any? If so how much? dont want to go to premium fuel if I dont have to.
Also what is best performing plug? Generally use champions, have tried the truck plug and I think I have motorcraft/autolight in it now.
This is in 89 351 w/EFI, gibson catback, K&N FIPK, Hypertech chip.
TIA
Hank

Plug gap & MSD
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Mar-02 AT 05:54 PM (EST)]Hank, if you have the BLaster II coil (45Kv), then you can safely go up to .052" plug gap, and maybe even wider with the low resistance wires.
The pinging is a mystery. With the MSD system, you should have less tendency for pinging, not more. Maybe the stock timing was accidently changed during the installation?
