I can only hope that the people of the greatest country in the world will soon stand up and do something about this. Call your state reps and make noise. It is a start. Something is going to break if this continues and it's not only our bank accounts.

Don't think they can do much (leagally), nor do they care.
I'll go back to using my 30+mpg 4-cyl car most of the time. That'll at least lower my demand for now.
I have a Kawasaki Concourse sitting in the garage (just replaced a 24-year-old Honda VF1100s). It oughta get about 45 mpg.... but we're still hip-deep in snow, and yesterday morning, it was below zero. Today, we're in the 30s.... I guess it's gonna be a while yet.
I would like to know when the politicians are going to start working for us instead of the Fat Pig Corporations...Why do we vote for them for? So they can hit the lottery...

I have yet to see a station with a sign out front stating ,sorry, were out of fuel like they had in the middle 70's with the imbargo,I'm going to hate myself for saying this, but it is time to go to a nationwide 55 MPH speed limit,it just take's more fuel to go fast, been leaving my diesel sit a lot lately and been using the expedtion and going 70-75 MPH get's me 16.5-17 MPG,driving 55-60 get's me 21.4MPG, all on the highway, town driving suck's @ 14-15 MPG,@ $4.00 a gal I have more time than money to piss away going fast, same when I pull the 5'th wheel, last summer my son took his 5'th wheel and I followed to the panhandel,he's going 70-75 MPH and I'm staying right with him,I've had this truck and RV combo for going on 5 year's and never ever had the fan clutch cut in,will it did,on and off all the way to the panhandel and I got ONLY 6.5 MPG,on the way home i told him to just go,mom and I will loaf along atour usual 55-62 MPH @ just under 2000 RPM,my MPG came right back9.5-10 MPG and the fan clutch never kicked in,try it you might be suprised at what MPG you might get.

Another "Old Fart" to agree with poppie.... speed kills (your mileage)
I have an '06 diesel with 3.73 axle and a manual trans. Somewhere about 70 mph (2000 rpm) the fuel consumption goes crazy. 65-68 mph, it will get 19-20 mpg, depending on the grade, the wind, the temp, the phase of the moon..... Nudge it up to 73-75 mph, and it gets about 17 mpg, and if it gets near 80 mph, it gets 14-15 mpg.
I wish I could get close to the mpg you guys talk about. I have an '03 with the 6.0 and on the highway using cruise control set at 72 I am lucky to get 14 mpg.

It hasn't been a "Government for the people" in a long, long time.

Tire pressure? Depending on tire size, should be at least 55 front 50 rear.... 65 front 60 rear is better. If you're loaded, get the rears up to max. If you're running monster tires, sell 'em to a dumb kid and put on 265 to 285 width tires.
Lifted? Put it back down.
Automatic trans? There's at least 1 mpg.... maybe 2..... not much you can do about it.
Axle ratio? 3.73 is good (unless your almost always either running loaded or towing) 4.10 is fair, anything deeper is bad.
Got a boost gauge? If so, keep an eye on it, bearing in mind that when it's going up, your fuel mileage is going down.
Last, drop your speed another 5 mph.... over 70 is where they start to get real thirsty.
As far as diesel fuel goes we need to put more pressure on the government for alternetive fuels. I would think that that would be an easier pressure for them to feel and do something about. Although I do understand that "BIG OIL" will have their influence. However, a voiced opinion to the locals can go a long way, if the whole country is in on it. But thats the trick! Talking is always easier than doing!
Just 2 cents. We all need to try and spend our earned dollars on items or commoddities produced, made, supplied from our own back yards (USA) Free Trade, is not free. We all know nothings free. Made in other lands is not some thing I ever feared , hoping the best for others, and liking some of there products very much ( see-lambo)..but recently, with talk of others developing at allarming rates ( many Communist, fashist, exsteamist, alloftheabove and other bad things I can't spell without a dictionary printed in china ) increasing global use at rates of increas we will never se here again. We need to search our selves for the answers as well. I thought about this all way back when we started getting lower north American Fords and my 70 camaro started really looking to be American history material.
Could we push hard for deregulation here and make a, price differance happen? I don't know. We have vast amounts of resources locked up in Alaska, Off coast , and in places not available for use by industry. Some for good sound reasons but, the not in my back yard crowd really wont move to help the masses of little guys. High prices may be the true wake up call it takes to bring about changes. We as a group consume in much smarter (technologicly) ways than we have in the past and would hope to see some relief for doing so, but globall socio-economic (controll-devolping nations) forcess will be a constant hinderance to fuel price relief. Again just my deminished value 2-cents, soory about the spelling. to many days in class with hot-rod magazine .
