Ok so I tried it tonight. It shows as Pass on the scanner so either everything tests ok or the scanner won't read the diesel.

Stalls in Man1 and R?
If stalling in all selected gears with no codes would lead me to a hydraulic or mechanical failure. I would check line pressure first. Trans warm in park should be 50 to 65 psi. If pressure is good remove the P/Y wire off the s-pack connector and retest the gears for lockup.
Could be one of a few issues.

Success!!

I changed the converter and was definitely the problem. I cut the old one apart and there was nothing in there but shrapnel.

Now I need to do a full fluid and filter change. Anyone know how much oil it takes?

if the converter is drained and the filter is changed it will be 14-17 quarts.

My WAG was going to be TC or bad valve in the pump.
Did you pull the pump?

No I didn't pull the pump. I just pulled the tc, blew out any openings and put in the new one.

Back flush the cooler.
Most of the material from the TC can be in the cooler.

Hey I also just remembered I think you have a 2wd truck. It will take a few less quarts of oil than I told you earlier. they have a smaller trans pan.
