Wood Veneers for Dash

I was thinking about applying a wood veneer to the dash face of my ’77 F-100 (mostly the flat surfaces).

Has anyone here made that type of mod and if so what brand and type of veneer did you use? Also what type of adhesive?

I have been a woodworker for 20+ years but never applied wood veneer to a metal dash - plus I am worried about the high temps the truck’s interior can reach in the hot summers.

All I have used is Sherwood Dashes kits. However they are all simulated materials, no wood or metals. For what your doing, it's going to be difficult. You will need something flexible enough to tuck the edges if you 3m double sided molding tape as I would suggest. If you have a heat gun, it would be a good idea to mold your materials to the shape of the dash, you probably have some compound curves to contend with.

Look, see these two tow hooks? They look like tusks. And what kind of animal has tusks?

there's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I like to think that I walk that line every day of my life.

Actually, most of the dash is flat - which is why I thought about covering the boring expanse with something "different".

I am just concerned that a standard contact adhesive will not survive the extreme heat and normal wood coatings will not last any longer either.

Super 77 and double sided molding tape from 3m are the only adhesives I have used in automotive context, and both have served me well. In fact those dash kits are backed with 3m double sided tape. I use the Super 77 for stereo boxes and insulation.
