Something burning?? Not a good smell

I was trying to turn over the ignition on my 74 e-100 and all of the sudden smelled/saw smoke coming out of the hood/dash area..after the smoke cleared I opened the hood and noticed it was coming roughly from the area where the ignition module and starter solenoid are,but could'nt pin point exactly where....now when I turn the ignition....nothing..not even a click....I am thinking either starter solenoid or ignition module??? anyone ever had either of these fry like that....I also noticed the previous owner had the battery cables on really loose..so maybe a bad ground or ??? caused the meltdown....

Yea I'd check the starter solenoid and all the connections. I burnt one up on my 78 F150 by cranking it too long w/ some bad connections to boot. Check battery cables and ground connections are tight and clean too.

do you have any lights or radio
if not there are several fusible links inside the wire harness
this may be your problem also

Yeah, I think it might be the fusible link that connects to the starter solenoid,it says 16ga fusible link on it and it feels really flexible like the wire inside burnt up....going to check tomorrow ..also bought all new battery cables, ignition starter switch and starter solenoid
