Talking 292 Bellhousing Question

Hey guys, I've been lurking here for a couple of months but this is my first post. I've got a '61 Unibody Shorty that had a 223 from the factory and I found a 292 today for it. It will be a mild custom/hot rod and I want to keep my Three on the Tree so my question is will the 223 bellhousing and trans work on the 292? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You will need a 292 bell housing from a 57 and newer truck. The 54-56 truck bell housings do not have the provision for the clutch bell crank to bolt to it. You will also need the bell housing from a three speed as the 4 speeds are different too.

Your trans will fit up with no problems.

Thanks, Kevin. The engine I just bought has a 4-speed bell. Anyone got a 3-speed b/h or need a 4-speed b/h? Let me know, I don't need the 4-speed.- Mark

Check to see if you need a front cross member for a V-8 truck, on my 55 truck the 6 cyl. was longer and rested on the front frame. I had get another another cross member for the front motor mount when I switched to a V-8. If the engine came out of a car you made need a different timing chane cover and motor mount for the truck?
