Gas Tank Emissions Hole??!

I own a 1979 Ford F250 with the rear 19 gallon steel gas tank. I am replacing the tank due to rust and rot. Now the new tank has a hole on the top of it, right in the center. Is that called an emissions hole. Thats my only conclusion because my old tank doesnt have that hole. I guess thats why bronco graveyard sells steel tanks with and without an emissions hole.

Can someone help me about this hole on top of the 73-79 ford gas tanks?
..or what its called?

That is exactly what it is, an emissions hole. There is a fitting that goes into a grommet and a rubber line which goes to the charcoal canister.

The fuel vapor valve > > E2AZ-9B593-A & its related gasket > > E1FZ-9B076-A are what fits into the fuel tank hole, top of the gas tank.

The vapor valve has a nipple on it, where the hose attaches..the hose then runs to the charcoal cannister.

ALL the trucks (and the cars) sold new beginning in 1970 in CA have this same setup.

If you live in CA, those parts better be on there...CA requires a smog inspection on vehicles of this vintage.

I just bought a new tank for my 75 f100. It has the ems hole, I was going to reuse the vapor valve but the rubber on it is split. Nummberdummy, what do those part numbers refer to? Can I use those numbers at a part store or the dealership, where can I get one?

Both Ford part numbers have been replaced (updated) by Ford...I just learned this 5 minutes ago (thanks to Green Sales).

New part numbers, both are available from Ford

E7DZ-9B593-A .. Fuel Vapor Valve (was: E2AZ-9B593-A) ~ List price: $10.60 / FTE member price: $6.24

F6TZ-9B076-AA .. Gasket (was: E1FZ-9B076-A) ~ List price: $6.20 / FTE member price: $3.29

The above prices are from FTE sponsor DIRECT FORD PARTS (Gaudin Ford-Las Vegas NV)

Just make sure I understand. Those part numbers are for newer vehicles but will fit in my 75 tank ems hole? What does the valve do? Can it go bad? Could I just get the Gasket?

Yes Sir, even the numbers I typed originally (E2AZ-9B593-A & E1FZ-9B076-A) were updated by Ford, too.

Ford updates 1000's of part numbers a year. So E7DZ-9B593-A, a p/n from 1987 fits a 1975, also.

Just buy a new gasket, that's all you really need.

I know it is an emissions valve, but what does EMS actually stand for?
