Engine questions

I just bought a 78 F150 short bed as a donor truck for an SAS. But I was curious about that engine. It has edelbrock carb, and what looks to be aluminum intake. The reason Im curious is because the carb is just huge, I have no history of this "home made" crawler. Where would I find ID tag, or casting? http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i2...4/HPIM3054.jpg thats the engine.

If you could do one more pic that's just a little bit lower.....

From that pic, it looks like there is some space (about an inch) between where the head meets the block and where the water pump bolts up.

That would be a 351W.

If the head looks like it's right on top of the WP opening.........it's a 302.

NO 351W engines were installed in F100/350's before 1981.

The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code: G = 302

(+1) on the 302. The dizzy enters the block pretty even with the bottom of the intake manifold. 351W has a pretty pronounced drop off below the intake.

Well I don't know how much this means, but it I found casting letters on the heads. It says they are for a cleveland, but from what I understand they used those heads on the 352M and 400.
