I had a problem with my other post, so I'm posting my truck again.
1977 F100 Flareside with 17,000 original miles. I bought it from original owner. It has many of the stickers still on parts! Original paint! I'm going to work on buffing it out now. Any suggestion on how to procede without wrecking the stripes?
Wash it with a true car soap (not dishwashing soap!!!) then dry it off with chamois or rubber blades. Get a clay bar kit and clay the whole thing. Note: if you drop the clay bar on the ground, throw it away. After claying the whole truck, get a cutting polish and a cutting pad. Then get some glazing compound. When you're all done, make sure you get everything off before waxing it. You can either hand buff it or use a random orbital sander like a Porter Cable 7336 with a Velcro attachment so the pads will stick on the disc.
Use good products like Meguiar's or Mothers. Don't get Turtle Wax! They are like sandpaper. Don't fall for the hype from some miracle-in-a-bottle. It ain't happening.
Hey lilsecret, sorry I mean terceslil do you know the guy down there that has this green F150, his name his Harold,
or the guy with the red bumpside he calls "The Baron" I know they built both of those trucks. Last I heard they were redoing the green one I was wondering if you had seen it around town down there or anything.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I've never used a glay bar before. What does it do and how do you use it? You say use a cutting polish next. Is that like a rubbing compound? Is an orbital sander better than a car buffer?
I appreciate the help.
clay bar is simply that, a clay bar......you spray on a liquid to help it glide, then you rub it on the truck and it pulls any contaminants out of the paint.....

Naw. I don't know many people running these old trucks. My dad did. His was bad. (BTW, the paint came from a chemical plant, not where the fire hydrants were made. He worked on scaffolds, and plant maintenance. He would load up stuff that fit in his lunch box.)
My cousin and I are running these old trucks. My cousin has a 79 supercab he's working on. My uncle has a nice old truck too. My dad taught him how to build 'em and paint 'em.
Outside of the people that I know, you really don't see a lot of them around here. (Makes it real fun to find parts.)

Yes, it is sort of like rubbing compound. It is to clean up the paint from glaze and dullness.
Yes, it is. Car buffers are made for waxing only. You need a powerful random orbital tool in order to really work into the paint.
Google some things, there are sooo many things on this subject.
Here's mine. Just got done finishing all the body work. All moulding is being replaced and getting fresh psint in the next month. New ignition system for the 460. New exhaust. New carpet inside... Done. I love this truck! I'd like to get a few inches of lift and maybe a bit more tire under it but don't want to spend an arm and a leg doing it.
