Truck has been washed so tires are wet, yes? Water is usually slippery stuff.

Seems odd, i cant even imagine what would cause it to break like that, droppin the clutch, still seems odd, my truck wont spin the tires, it will slip the clutch if i drop it at a standstill. Maybe its taken a lot of wear and tear and finally just gave out. Thats all i can think of.

The 3rd member usually doesn't break like that . The housing must have cracked.

x2 on ^ My theory... The carrier more than likely had a crack already, right where its broke obviously. When you dumped the clutch, the ring was starting on the pinion right where it's cracked, and the crack allowed for the pinion to skip, causing all the havoc.

I'm with the rest of the consensus, must had had a crak in there somewhere, also the dump of the clutch with those 35" mudders sure would have put a strain on that carrier.

When i bought it , i could tell who ever had it before had to been ruff on it ...... cuz the stuff under the front like the bumper valance had been cut to fit bigger tires and the whole unside of it was covered with mud. i have had it in the mud 1 time and i was not hard on it ..... so it must have already had some wear and tear as yall say ..... well im bout to go take it out and look into in further , ill let yall kno ......

How does the ring and pinion look? It looks like in the picture that the ring has some messed up teeth..
I also agree with what some of the others said, the person who owned it before you probably stressed the housing alot, because the 8.8 is kinda strong for how little it is.
