PCM calibration issues

<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1><TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">Hi guys - just wondering - does anyone know where I can find more info on Ford factory PCM reflashes? I am a tech at a Mazda dealer and I had plugged my IDS scanner into my truck (2004 F150 5.4 Supercrew FX4) and found I had access to everything. I was able to access all the modules on the truck, retrieve my factory keyless entry door code, and even program new ignition keys. I even reprogrammed my PCM with the latest Ford factory updates! I know that Mazda uses the same diagnostic equipment as Ford and I'm surprised to see that I had access to Ford calibration files.

Anyway, here are the updates I put in:

04-21-14
05-05-15

I suspect these first two refer to T.S.B.'s

SSM17261
SSM17305
SSM17308
SSM17483
SSM17513
SSM17646
SSM17666

These 7 I don't know what they are - any help would be appreciated!

Calibrations are usually digit codes, mine is BVR2. I don't know what those are, but updates are very common on the diesel and not unheard of on gasoline engines. While you can do a lot of cool diagnostics, I don't think there is much performance you can play with on dealership software.

However, you have the J2534 pass thru interface and that's a great thing. Check out Moates.com and some other webpages for tuning and ideas of what you can do with that interface.

TSB 04-21-14 refers to "Hesitation during accel and/or erratic idle coming to a stop"
TSB 05-05-15 refers to "Rough Idle - 5.4L and 4.6L"

I couldn't get any information on the SSM's because the server is down for maintenance. I'll look tomorrow afternoon and see what I can find for you.

As for the Mazda tool, it's the same as the Ford tool. For all intents and purposes, Ford and Mazda are the same company. Ford scan-tools have been able to reprogram Mazdas since back to the days of the Hickok.

Take care.

Bill,
Thanks for your help. Its greatly appreciated! The truck is new to me, and it's nice to see that I can access the different systems when stuff goes wrong. If you could get the info on the SSM's that would be great. If you ever need any info on Mazdas I would love to be able to return the favor.

Bill,
just checked out your website - do you have anyone distributing your product in Canada? I'd love to get more info if you are looking for distributors.

We are currently in the process of outlining a Distributor Program that would provide opportunities for small companies and performance shops to be able to provide tuning services and products.

This is especially a good deal for Canadians because of the lower costs of purchasing unprogrammed products at jobber pricing and then upcharging on that end. This keeps the import duties to a minimum.

I have several people interested in distributorship. If you would like, please e-mail your company information and I will contact you with details.

Take care.

Hello
Simple question :

Can Mazda Scan Tools (Ford) do some more than reflashes ex: change iddle rpm's or speedlimiter ?
What does the SSM stand for ?
Special Service Messages (SSM)

No. There are no user adjustable parameters on dealer software.
