I want to clean the screen behind the FPR and I know how to remove the FPR. My ques is when I replace does the system need primed? If so how do you do it?

if you don't completely drain the fuel filter housing it should start right up and be ok. maybe stutter for a minute a few seconds after starting, but should be fine. if your worried, goose it a little after starting. if i have ever needed to prime the whole system. i have just been patient and cranked on it for a while. but of course don't burn up the starter, it takes a lot of cranking. i have also used a buddy to help and have held the shrader valve open while cranking and this helps expel any air that hasnt made it to the heads yet.

there is no priming a powerstroke, they are self priming. just crank to bleed air

When I replaced my fuel pump and had the filter canister drained I thought I would have to do a lot of cranking. Not so, it fired right up like normal. Kind of surprised me.

thats because there was still fuel in the rails inside the heads, if the whole system is drained,ie injector swap, it takes a couple of minutes to self prime

And a good way to prime at least the oil system is keep the IDM fuse pulled and crank, fill HPOP, crank, and fill. After that and replacing fuse, fired right up first time

Edit: I think this primes fuel system too since it's a lift pump?? Someone chime in here...

Sorry...

you can also fill up your fuel filter housing to reduce crank times as well
