I let the glow plugs light go out and tried to start it.....it wouldnt start the 1st time......so i turned the key off and the starter kept on cranking......i had to unhook both batteries to stop it....it smoked a bit....now it just clicks....i bought a new starter....solonoid is 2 months old....didnt do it before new sel was installed......what should i look for before i install new starter
thanx
its a 97 F350 w/ a 7.3...changed the old one because i had a bad wire and the threads to the solenoid was almost gone....never had the problem til it was changed
thanx
It almost sounds like this has happened to you after you changed the solenoid, correct ? If so then I agree with "cOOnhunterjoe" .. get another solenoid before you retry the new starter.
Don't know but get one designed for your truck .. that starter draws a lot of current and if it was replaced with something lower rated .. then the contacts probably welded together.
yeah, get a new sol. from napa or the like.. ford don't make them anymore, unless you get the starter too.. price is from $48-$55
one thing I did when I changed mine, was to replace the phillips head screws that hold the sol. on with hex head bolts.. so next time I won't have to take the starter off..
good luck gettting that starter on and off very fast, that top bolt on the starter is a PITA to get at.. unless you can manage to get the phillips loose with the starter on.. I couldn't though
