--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the latest start-up dates for the 2009 F-150:
05/16/2008 2009 Unscheduled Order Bank Opens
06/12/2008 2009 Model Year Scheduling Begins
07/23/2008 2009 Model Year Job #1 (Dearborn)
08/13/2008 2009 Model Year Job #1 (Kansas City)
How many hours does it take to produce a F-150 and how long do these units sit in the holding yards before they're "railed" out to the respective dealers?
1.It takes about 18 hours to produce a truck (body-paint-final)
2.Current model, the truck goes straight to rail or convoy for the next available ride. The 2009's will sit for 2-3 weeks for quality hold before we release them to ship.

So when will Ford be done making the current model F150? And then when they are done what exactly takes place to switch the assembly lines over to a new model, or is it a completely new line? I'm totally amazed by how quickly they can go from making one model to another.
O.K., I'll try to be short...
The TTbuild we just finished (tooling trial) was to test the tooling and how new and current jobs will be set up. New tools are on the line with current tools.
We are set to do the PP build at the end of March. We will build up to 12 09's in a row with the current trucks. We again test tooling with the build and new job processes (which have been tweeked since the last build).
In June we will do an MP1 build with up to 50 09's a shift being built with the current model. All tooling and jobs are to be set by this point (there are some tools that can not be switched over until Job1)
MP2 or job1 is July 23rd. We will run about 10 "skips" in the line from the last 08 to the first 09, thus ending the current model production and being fully changed over to the 09.

Hey dearborn what happens to all the test trucks that they put through hell? Do they get sold used or somthing?
Vehicles are sent to a contracted supplier for a little dismantling and a light flattening before they are loaded up on a flat bed and sent to another location for a final shredding. It is quite a secure process involving chain of custody and the whole bit. The truck that is carrying the vehicles to the shredding location is even followed by an "independent observer" to confirm that the vehicles are completely destroyed.

Thanks DD for the info. I never understood how they did that. I didnt realize that there was so much involved.
I emailed them almost a month ago (Feb 4) and he said at that time that the guides should be available within a few weeks. Well, they are not on their site yet.

We've been over run with the TT trucks every combination but a regular cab, they only build those in K.C.
Trust me you don't want a test mule after their done with it.
