Question 96 t-bird Good buy?

I'm looking at buying a 96 t-bird for $500. The car is in nice shape but the tranny slips in reverse and the 4.6L engine misses a little.
I am thinking of using the IRS out of it in my 53 f100 and possibly the engine.
My question is first is the rear end and an engine that is missing worth $500 and is there anything else I can use off the car for my truck?
Just interested in your thoughts?

I would say it depends on whether they've taken any steps to try & tune up the motor. You may have it running like a champ with new plugs, wires, and maybe a coil pack.

For reference, I paid $130 for the IRS out of a supercoupe. I thought that was a pretty good price.

If you plan to use the ecm to run the engine and transmission I think you will have to pay someone to reprogram security out of it. I got a lot of parts off the 95 T-bird to make my 48 F-1 and got my money back several times. I used the IRS, IFS,engine, trans, seats, exhaust system, master brake booster, brake pedal, parking brake cable and pedal assy and throttle cable. My neice wrecked it and I paid her $500. It had 98,00 miles, was well taken care of and just had a trans overhaul with new torque converter. The engine sounds like an electric motot it is so quiet. The ecm did not need to be reprogramed up until 96. I think you can do ok with $500 if you could part it if you decided not to use it. Good luck. PS. If you plan to change to a carbureator and find a way to run the ignition please let us know.
