Sedly, the cheapest way to get something shipped from the US is get it shipped to Point Roberts (5 minutes west of Tsawassen). You get it sent to your name, C/O The Letter Carrier, 145 Tyee Drive Washington State, 98281. They run a little shipping depot and will hold the goods for up to a month or more for a few dollars per package. See their website. The problem for you is that noone can bring the goods over the boarder except the person whose name is on the package, so you'd have to come down here from the mountains to pick it up yourself. If you have relatives in Vancouver, the package could be sent using their name... Of course, you get the privilege of paying PST & GST at the boarder and the guards will search the car.
It will be interesting to see the consequences of a Democratic new President; with all the anti-NAFTA talk going on south of us. Personally, I think we'll probably just end up paying more to import stuff - maybe PST, GST & CPT (Canadian Punishment Tax).
Snail mail seems to be the cheapest for brokerage fees quite often shipping as well. Just got a couple small things from bronco graveyard and forgot to see if they'd ship by mail. Ups arrives with a 40$ brokerage fee plus taxes obviously. Canada post usually charges about 7$
Yes, if the package is small and light weight, the best is the Post/Snail Mail but be careful, there are several versions of US Mail and you have to get the vendor to send it the right way. If I remember right, it has to be labelled correctly and sent US Export/International Mail. Otherwise, you can get dinged.

In that case just stick with USPS (United States Postal Service) and you'll be fine.
Sedly, we frequently get stuff from the states......we have it shipped to a company in Oroville, which is a 10 minute drive for us.....usually the person we get it from has it shipped the cheapest way possible, and to recieve it it cost us $5 per package or $20 per pallet......and believe me when it comes to paying shipping costs Al is Mr. El Cheapo.....

This package was fairly small.
I paid 5 buck's for shipping,it came right to my mail box.
I bought another part from a guy in Ohio,he's a FTE member.
It's a little bigger and heavier,25 buck's for shipping,and I have to pay 11 buck's for custom's when I pick it up.
Oriville is too far for me to travel, but it sound's good.

I think if you are crossing the border it is based on what it cost. For shipping across the border who knows. I think some of the extra cost if for brokerage fees. Sometimes I have had extra added on and sometimes not. I know sometimes UPS dings you pretty good. Shipping something as a gift is usually cheaper. Not as many fees for some reason.
