Question Best drop-in air filter to use on a 08' XLT F-150 5.4L ?

Just wanted to know what every thoughts were before I buy, Iam thinking K&N but maybe theres better, I was looking at the "Green Performance filter" but they wanted $80 for it, then was thinking a foam filter would be good because I live in the desert and it's gets dusty when the storms in the summer months, So was thinking True-Flow air filter. Iam looking for Great filtration as well as GREAT protection. Something that will work great with the Air Raid (M.I.T) air intake tube. Thanks, Jeff

I'm using the AFE Pro Dry Air Filter in my 07 5.4. Great filter and washable without having to reoil like all the other performance filters.

I live in AZ too, Been using a K&N for about two years now. I love it! And with the amout of "regular" filters I would have gone through, the K&N has paid for itself about 3 or 5 times over. just clean it, let it dry, oil it, wahla... new filter!

I just ordered the AEM Dryflow performance filter. It doesn't need oil and it has the Ford recommended felt seal gasket.

with my experience in the automotive industry I know why no OE uses them on vehicles. I have owned several vechicles in the past with K&N's and oiled filters...no more for me. Motorcraft.

Would you care to enlighten us all with your experience?

I know that too many people over-oil them, and the excess gets sucked into the intake and gums stuff up. It changes the vortex and tumbling of the air decreasing mileage.

I have had several issues with MAP sensors, dust trails on intakes. I have spoke with engineers at Ford before on filtration standards and they enlightened me on some studies done....I dont want to bad mount K&N but I will not use there air filters on any of my vehicles.

Like FOrdzTUFF mentioned, as long as it is not overoiled, k&n airfilters work just fine, and are cost effective in the long run. There are many options availible for air filters and it depends on if one wants to take the time to oil them or buy another type of filter media to use. IMO, the stock air filter is not the best flowing.

They didn't happen to answer the mystery as to how 2 out of the 6 or 8 cylinders on an engine using an aftermarket intake could be dusted and the other 4-6 not show any signs of dusting at all?

There has been a few cases of that with both the Fomoco and Dopar products around here. I think it is magical mystery dust myself.
