i'm frustrated!

Hi. I was very exited with the plans I had going to Gatlinburg. Today I will officialy have to give up. With today's diesel prices near 5/ gal. it's difficult. It was an amaizing idea to meet you nice people. My kids will be very sad when I let them know vacations canceled. The distance to go is around 1550 milles go and 1550 milles back. Total 3100 milles. pulling my rv my truck gives me 300 milles per tank. I spend 150 dlls to fill the tank, @ 4.50 dlls/ gal.
So Iwill spend (only diesel) 10.5 tanks @ 150 dlls=1575 dlls. Not to consider how mush the diesel will cost in those days. Good luck to those who will go.

Chaparro, you can blame the investors who are making a killing on oil futures.

They are the ones driving this daily fuel price increase.

The bubble will pop and make some of them very poor overnight. Most don't know how to stop and get out while they are ahead.

Chaparro - sorry to hear that you won't be making it. I know there are quite a few others that are 'on the fence' and fuel (gas/diesel) prices will be a big deciding factor for most. Luckily, we're only 185 miles away and although we should make there and back on only 1 tank - the hi fuel prices are taking it's toll.

I agree with VaSheriff - this bubble has got burst eventually. (nuf said, let's not turn this in to a wild thread again).

For everyone else...

Hey guys,

Is it too late to get in? I had posted earlier in this thread with the hopes of going but I still don't know. That is the very first weekend back from Florida. The kids and wife left last week and I drive down to pick them up the week before. I'l really like to go but I'm certain it is going to be a last minute thing.

It's really matter of availability at the CG - but if you do decide to come and they have no openings, try one of the other in the area. You cna stillcome and hang with the rest of us (but the Twincreek charges a 'day use' fee that is a could of bucks).

Come down! It's gonna be a blast!

I agree with Mark...COME ON DOWN!!!

BTW...I am in the middle of a 4000 mile pull. We've seen Sedona Az, Grand Canyon, Byrce Canyon, Zion National Park, Arches National Park and we are currently in Denver.

Gasoline prices...well they have been all over the map. I've seen a high of $4.59 for 85 octane in Williams Az...although down the road where I got it in town it was $3.99.

The Texas pan handle had some of the highest prices seen as well at certain stops...upwards of $4.19 when other stops had $3.96

Lowest actually paid was $3.72 and highest actually paid was $4.21

Wind (mostly cross/head) during the early part of the trip thru Missouri, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas was HORRIBLE and really hurt MPG's.

I pulled two small passes today with my little ole V10...

One was Vail at 10,630' and the other Eisenhower at 11,200'...you know what...my V10 made it with foot...lots of foot to spare...

So...fuel prices...well all I can say is I know I am fortunate and I thank God for that...but I'm not going to let the oil execs steal my kids memories...

If you really do the math on how much more the trip to Gatlinburg will cost this year at $4 for 87 octane vs last year at $3...I think you will be surprised it isn't that much of an increase...

Now diesel...well last year this time if I remember it was much lower than the $5 current price per gallon...but if you do the math comparing this year vs last...again I don't think it will be a huge adder to the overall trip...

I hope fuel prices don't scare folks...but understand everyones personal reasons.

Joe.

Well I'm home from our trip and figured I'd remind everyone that there is...

LESS THAN ONE MONTH TO RALLY TIME!!!...

Don't wonder what you will miss...sign up and join the fun!

We'll be mailing out the agenda here in the next couple of days for the weekend activities. This is only a 'suggested' agenda. No obligations are intended...only trying to give group activities that folks expressed interest in.

We'll have a day for the Water park, Meet and greet with wine and cheese tasting,
Go-Kart racing (PSD vs V10 style of course!!! ), Pot luck dinner with ice cream social for dessert, Omelet boil breakfast (if you've never done it...it is a neat way to make camp omelets), Horseback riding and possibly Hillbilly Golf.

These events will span Friday to Sunday as most everyone will be there all day on Friday.

Again...the agenda will simply be a suggested group activity...this is everyones rally and are free to do what you wish...just trying to have potential group outings for those that are interested...stay tuned for a more formal agenda in the next few days...

We had a great response to the rally T-Shirt sales...that will make for a very nice touch at the social events...thanks to all that got in the spirit and purchased a shirt...I think Jon did an excellent job on the designs.

Joe.

Okay...less than one month to the rally!!!

Here's the proposed agenda for the rally.

Since 95% of the folks will actually be there on Friday 7/25 we figured we'd start the rally stuff off that day.

This agenda by no means is mandatory. Each family is totally free to partake in whatever they wish or nothing at all but wanted to put together some stuff that folks may want to join in on as a group.

For a couple of the activities, if we get a large enough group to attend...we can get a group discount. Therefore we ask that as you look over the agenda if you could reply (via PM) with your intentions on joining the group or not so we can try and get some pricing idea for everyone as to the overall costs. If you and your family plan on joining, please respond with which activity and how many in your family (and ages of kids).

Also if anyone has a portable projector that we could hook to a laptop and show a movie at night for the kids...let us know as we do not have one (just have to clear it with the campground hosts first if we get one!).

If anyone has a corn hole game board (one hole bean bag toss), horse shoes or volleyball bring it along. We have Bocce and hillbilly horseshoes that we will bring.

For the omelet egg boil...if you have never done this...you need to at least join that event.

We are still working on a pamphlet of other area activities and we've got some area information packages coming that we'll distribute in the welcome packages when you get to the rally...there certainly is much to do in this area!!!

This rally is EVERYONE'S rally...this agenda is just a suggestion to get some group outings going...nothing more.

Again, please respond with your intentions so we can plan for group discounts.

Okay here's the agenda:
