cutting the brake plunger rod
I finally got around to switching my brakes in my 66 f100 to power disk. everything went well until it came to hooking up my power booster. I cut 3/4" out of it then threaded it and put a sleeve on it. when i went to put it back on it was way to short. In fact I think that if i had not cut any thing off it would still be to short. The truck was a automatic and was converted at one time to a manuel. Could they have used a pedal from a bigger truck or a different year? Or am I being retarded and missing something? I am in the process of changing back to an automatic does anyone have a line on where i can get automatic pedal assembly? Thanks for the help.

Im usind the brake pedals that were on my 66. I am also using the brake booster and brackets from the donor 75 f150. Im not sure about the pedal assembly in my 66 some one has changed it from the original one when they put the standard transmision in. Maybe from the wrong aplication. Im thinking I need to locate some pedals from an automatic truck and swap them in since im putting an automatic in anyways.

On boosted brakes the pedal sits much closer to the floor. My experience the later rods are to long. You can adjust brake pedal height by drilling a new hole like John suggested. I use the original 65-66 pedal hanger bracket with later model brake pedals. I always use the "step" firewall brackets for the booster. I use the stock flat Ford rod rruning through the firewall to a 72 or newer pedal arm with the wide pedal pad. Mustang firewall seal fits and works perfectly if yours is bad. This is easier done with all the pieces out and sitting on the bench.
