Ford 292 Hose?

I'm driving 3 hours tomorrow morning to possibly buy a running 292 for my '56 F-100 and in the photo there is a hose coming out of the side of the engine block beneath the generator/alternator bracket and just above the oil pan. Is this original or did someone add this?

Thanks

The guy is saying that's it's a threaded fitting that goes to the automatic transmission. Does that sound right?

It sounds right, a line for the water cooled trans, except I thought 56's were air cooled auto trans. It may be a newer than 292 not a 56. If its a 292 and its a truck engine its not a 56 engine. PickupTruck 56's were ALL 272

Thanks that's what I needed to know. I didn't want to drive 3 hours to find out someone had bored a hole on the block and jerryrigged some hose. I'm not sure what year the engine is all I know is it's a 292. Right now my '56 still has the original 272 but it's worn out and needs rebuilt. I'm hoping with this 292 I can drive the truck while working on it

BJ,, they are aboslutely correct. I have a 292/automatic. There should also be one one the driver side as well. Instead of cooling the tranny off the radiator they cooled it off the engine block.
