Location of the Diagnostic plug?

I have a '99 F350 PSD. Can someone tell me where the diagnostic plug location is at.? Do you need a special code reader to read diesel codes? If so, whats availabale and where do you get them?

Sitting in the driver's seat, it's under the dash near your right knee...(OBD II). You don't need a 'special' reader, just one that's advanced enough to be compatable with your system. The ones Autozone uses usually won't work.

Under the dash just to the right of the steering column. That's the OBD port. The codes will look like "PO476" and so on. You can get a cheap reader at Autozone, etc.

But they do sell one that does. I use a Snap-On myself.

AZs scanner/reader sucks, period. It will not read PSD codes and neither will other cheapies. Matter of fact, it would not even tell me what was setting the ABS light in my wife's sister's disAstro van. What a POS. Get the good stuff like Autoenginuity or comparible, or see nothing.

I agree with Mike. The free or cheap scans won't read the codes you need on the Powerstroke. You need a good scanner to read the codes, and it will cost you a few hundred to get one. You might however, ask on this site, to see if anyone near you has a scanner and would be willing to pull the codes for you.

The AZ scanners will read the OBDII (abs, VSS, tranny) codes, but the PSD engine is not OBDII compliant.

Is Autoengenuity the only reader that will read PSD codes? That's a lot of $'s for a code reader. I know it's a pretty good system but I'm not going to buy a laptop to be able to use it. Does anyone have a Scangauge II and is it compatible with the PSD? There website says it's compatible with all Ford's. With all the diesels out there, I'm surprised there aren't more diesel code readers available.

Our engine is not made by Ford. It is made by International.

You may try looking on ebay for a used programmer (Bully dog, Predator, Superchips) most all of them will read codes, even if you dont want the additional performance offered from them. To go on the inexpensive side look for one that is VIN-locked, that means that the programming has been downloaded to a truck, and cannot be accesed again, but the code reader will still work (in most cases)

Thats the reason I kept my old superchip tuner, to read codes.

OH and also to hold down the paper work in my shop.

Once

Once we pull the codes with Auto Enginuity (just bought it online - waiting for it to arrive) where or how do we interpret what the codes mean?

Is there a list somewhere on line that can tell us?

Ohh - can auto enginuity do anything else besides pull codes?...can you make your own program or alter the standard Ford one in the onboard computer for better performance or anything?

Just seems like a lot of $ for software this just reads codes from another on board computer is all.

I havent got it yet (it may be in my post office box by now - I sure hope so) so haven't had a chance to read up what it does.

Can I for example drive along with it hooked up and monitor my fuel consumption real time while say towing the boat and find the most economical speed?

Just curious what else it will do, besides just pull error codes for me!

For $500 smackers plus air freight - i hopeit has scantilly clad wimmins photos or something! LOL

Cheers and thanks in advance!
