97 PSD Romps quite often

ok 97 psd 135K miles, has never romped on me before, but this past weekend it has started, it does it weather it is cold or weather i ran it for 5 hrs and turned it off and started it rite away, it will romp for 20 seconds and then idle kinda ruff but not bad, also if i give it throttle it doesnt romp, only when the pettle is in resting position, i recently changed the oil, but put in rotella 15-40 the same stuff i always use. glow plugs are new GPR is new and work great, i dont understand why it romps when warm, i have run 3 tanks of fuel with power service treatment through it and have 1000 miles on the oil change, any ideas on this, it does seem to not romp if i leave the key on for a few seconds after the wts light goes off, but am not positive on that, any help is appreciated

Try unplugging the ICP sensor ,, see what happens ...Check it for leaking oil & or a bad connection....

that is your injection control pressure sensor, it tells teh pcm how much high pressure oil is going to the injecotrs. sometimes the signals become erattic and the computer tries to fix it by adjusting the regulated flow from the pump, when this happens you get unwanted surge because there never was a problem until the pcm tried to correct the false signals. unplugging the sensor will cause the idle to instantly smooth out if the sensor is at fault, if nothing changes other then a quick stumble and a check engine light, then its not the sensor

Also to test the Trans range sensor which is a common cause to your problem start your truck in neutral. If it doesn't romp you need a new transmission range sensor.

before you start it. it will set a check engine light but that is not a concern. it will go out when you turn it off and plug it back in

Romps are normal when cold but the key to the OP's problem is that it happen cold and hot. Cold thick oil cause cold engine romps. When the engine is hot there is something else wrong.

ok my fuel filter restriction sensor is leaking fuel ever so slowly and it has worked its way dripping down the motor and drips a small puddle on the ground only when it is running, and the cap and wire are not connected to it (probly why it is leaking?), i guess i need to find it and put the wire end with cap back on it, i have smelled fuel for a while now and im guessing that is why it is romping, does this sound correct?

Unfortunately ,, that won't help with the romps ....A 1/8 pipe plug will fix the leak...
