Front end swap 66 to 64

Can you swap a 66 F100 frontend to a 64 F250?

If you are talking sheet metal, outer sheet metal, yes. But the inter fenders are differant and where the battery is located is differant.

The 64 is a strait axle truck and the 66 is a twin I-beam truck.

Bertha66:
Thanks for your response. That issue of the 66 being a twin I-beam is exactly my concern. I have both trucks 64 and 66 - the front end on the 64 needs a lot of work and 66 (parts truck) is in better shape. Do you think I would have any success with dropping the entire front end off the 66 and installing it on the 64? or is it so different that it is a bad idea?

Imo, It might be better to swap the frame over from one truck to the other. But I guess it depends on short or long bed. Question?? What is it that your trying to Accomplish by switching around the Front componets? If it is Stance or to try to lower, It will be better to use a Volare front K member for the swap.

It will take fabrication skills but has been done before. Frame is the same widths but has a differing profile as to rise and section.

Just what exactly do you want to do with the truck.

The plan with this truck is and economical renovation. The motivation to swap front end suspension was to save money. I wasn't really going for any special effects. The original suspension and steering on the 64 will require king pins, tie rod ends, drag link ETC $$$. The 66 front end was in fairly good shape. Dan

Hummmm,In my Opinon, A Swap done wrong could turn out to be an Unsafe Truck! All the fab work just to save a few bucks? Please think about what you going to end up with, The most Important thing IS to have a safe driving truck. Stoping is good too!
I would say if your skillz are up to par then go for it. If not Think about waiting till you have the money to make it Safe and Right!

If your trucks are the same lenght? just swap out the frame. that will be the easy way around the Fab work.

Good idea Bill. I wasn't thinking big enough. Will the 64 body bolt on to the 66 frame without a lot of modification?

Thanks Dan

I belive so,The cab's are the same, so is the bed If you have a Styleside bed, they are the same. Only thing I'm not sure about is the Rad support, It would be a Hole lot better than cutting and welding on the front part of the frame. While you have it down that far you can Paint up the frame and make it Pretty!

No......

It wont.

1. You need to fabricate new front frame cab mounts.
2. You need to section the cowl with the piece from the 66 for the lower steering column mount. also need to use the 66 column.
3. the dash needs to be sectioned to accept the upper steering column mount.

Plus this needs to be done anyway to us the twin I in the earlier chassis.

The trucks design is worlds apart in the suspension and steering area.

I actually did all the above mentioned work to the 66 suicide crew cab shown in my gallery to use a 79 TS chassis.
