You get the same amount of glycerin from fresh oil as you do used oil but the purpose of washing is to remove incompletely reacted fatty acids, residual methanol, and residual NaOH/KOH. All of those will produce som very undesirable effects on your engine.

I recommend dry washing with magnesol, it increases cost a little but reduces problems and yields a better end product.

So titration just calling for more NaOH or KOH. Cool

Thats some good prices on oil too. Haven't seen any that good in a while.

There will always be some unreacted MeOH, KOH/NaOH and/or free fatty acids in the mix no matter how good your titration is. In order to drive the reaction toward 100% you must either add an excess of somthing or draw off one of the products (in this case usually some glycerin), even then you wont get to 100% so washing is a must unless you dont value your engine.

Sorry, guess I should have answered directly. I agree about the washing (posted in the thread) just wasn't sure about the amount of glycerin. Thanks.

did you really find 5 gallons of new veggy oil for under 7 dollars, please let me know if this is correct, i haven't been able to find it for under 3.50 a gallon new, please let me know ,thanks vernon
