Fuel Question
#2
500 ppm Sulfur is referred to as "Low Sulfur Diesel" and can be used in all 2007 and older vehicles. 15 ppm Sulfur is referred to as "Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel" (ULSD) and is required for use in all 2008 and later on-road diesels.
500 ppm is getting hard to find; everyone in my neck of the woods is carrying only ULSD. With ULSD, you should add an injector/fuel pump lubricant.... 2% to 5% bio in warm climates, one of the commercial additives where it's too cold for bio.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I use Opti-Lube XPD. There was a posting of some test results some time back that showed 2% to 5% bio to be the best injector & pump lubricant. Next best was Opti-Lube..... But I had already gotten some inside information from a friend and fellow SAE member who works for an engine mfr. that they were testing different additives, and this was the best so far.
It also has a Cetane boost, but not very much, and it depresses the pour point, but not that well. I use it along with Power Service white in the winter and grey in the summer.
