2008 F350 Mpg?

OK... I'm told these things get 17MPG. WTF? I'm getting 10.4 average.

Admittedly... I'm heavy right footed but, even when I cruise the freeway at freeway speeds... 10 - 11 MPG MAX.

I assume your talking diesel? A small percentage are reporting 17+. Most seem to get 12-13 unloaded.

6.4L PSD Auto 4x4. Don't know what gears in the axles. Didn't think they went to the 4.88s till the F450s/F550s.

Make sure you don't have the front hubs locked. Your mileage should go up some after break in. You can read up on some of the MPG complaints in the 6.4 diesel section here.

I have the F-350, 4x4, with 6.4, 4.10 rears, dually, long bed, carry about 1,000 pounds all the time. Around town, 10.5 to 11. 3,100 miles on vehicle, less than 100 hours. One suggestion is make sure you check the air in your tires. Mine was delivered with 50 psi all the way around. I am anxious for my cap to arrive. I know my 2005, F-350, 6.0, 4.10 rears 4 x 4 also, gained over 1.5 mpg with a hard tonneau cover.
I am putting an A.R.E. cap on my 2008.

Also, watch your driving style. A light foot goes a long way towards getting the MPG numbers up.

Redford:

These old eyes cannot tell from the photo with your signature, but it looks like you have a hard tonneau cover behind that red ford. Correct? I am sure you know, how much mpg did that add to your 5.4? Also, do you think a cap would be better or worse for additional mpg as compared to hard cover?

Thx,
