Wheel Bearing

How hard would it be to change out the wheel bearing hub assembly on a 2003 Ford F150 Supercrew 4x4? Do you need any special tools or is it something that you have to take to a garage to have done?

I haven't done one but it looks straightforward enough in the manual. The manual shows three seperate tools to complete the process but like all bearing jobs you can use other tools to bypass them.

Anyone else done one?

steve(ill) is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
remove the tire/wheel.
remove the caliper and brake disc. - 18mm wrench
loosen the center axle nut--(i think it is 32 mm deep well?)
get a 15 mm 6 point wrench that is VERY good-- Craftsman or ?
put the wrench on the 3 bolt heads holding the hub and BEAT THE CRAP out of them
they are tight, held with loctite.
push the axle inward an inch (big nut loose) will help with access to the 3 holder bolts.
axle splines should slid out of the hub when ready- might need some encouragement.
clean the splines and put antisieze for reassembly.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. It will save me a lot of money by doing the job myself rather than taking it to a certified garage.

It's pretty easy. I did one on my Dad's truck last year. It is pretty much how steve said. The hardest part were the 3 bolts to remove the actual hub. But, still not a bad job. The worst part was the cost of the hub itself. If I remember right Ford's cost was around $550-600 (that was our cost) and aftermarket was $450 our cost.

The bolts will come out easier if you heat them with a propane torch.
