Performance exhaust (PSD)= loud interior?

If you have added a performance exhaust on you diesel excursion, did you notice increased noise in the cabin?

I have never messed with turbo diesels, but on gas trubo engines exhaust does not have a huge effect on noise because the turbo itself is in the exhaust path.

I have the same question. You guys that have 4" exhaust, is there any noticable noise increase at highway speed. I want to put a 4" MKO on, but if is loud at highway speeds my wife will not be a happy passenger(or driver)!!

i have a straight piped X with an 03 motor and turbo...it's fine when we're cruising...if i hook up the toy hauler and am towing, it's too much....your cat will soak up most of the sound....it also hurts your performance the most..

here's vid of mine with stock tuning..

Exhaust noise...

I put a 4" turbo back kit on my Ex and the noise did go up but to help I cut scrap carpet to the same size as the back cargo area and that helped to deaden the sound. I plan on putting Dynamat throught the Ex to make it quiet for the family trips.

I installed a 4" MBRP turbo back exhaust on my Excursion. It's my wifes daily driver and she's never once complained about the slight increase in noise.

I on the other hand was unhappy with the sound because it wasn't the diesel-beefyness I'd hoped for.

I added a MBRP 4 inch Exhaust to my dads 01 X and its not that much louder inside. But when you roll down the windows you definatly hear it. And what Stewart_H Said about the Sound I think it sounds like a Peter Built When you start it up or when towing or when you get on it but yes the rest of the time its does sound a little Wimpy ish.

Who was doing the dyno pull on your Ex? Why was he letting it row through the gears like that at WOT?

one of our club members ran all the trucks that day for consistency..the goal is to roll up before direct drive, and as soon as you're there, nail it to load the motor..you're trying to get the turbo to spool and have the truck make as much power as possible..by the time my truck hit OD it was just before the speed limiter(96 MPH) started pulling back...

this is how we all agreed to make the pulls..our results were very close to what we all expected...we were on a DynoJet...
