Stupid annoying dinging
Hey all, I just bought myself an '02 F-350XL 4X4 with a 7.3l, love the truck, but I've got an issue. When you first start the truck and the chimes go throught their little ditty, about 3 seconds later they go off again.. but this time they chime five times and cycle five times, so a total of 25 times over a certain period.. seems to do it about every half hour, could this be related to the clock somehow? The truck is bare bones basic, XL trim level Reg cab, Auto with tilt, cruise and A/C, oh and the premium stereo. Hope someone has been down this road before. Thanks,

IMPORTANT That is the secondary air bag warning system. 5 chimes in 5 groups indicates that the vehicle has detected BOTH a fault with the Supplemental Restraint System AND the Air Bag warning light. Your warning light sytem is inoperative and either you have an air bag issue or perhaps a seat belt pre tensioner. Not to get alarmed, but in order to disguise an expensive air bag repair, the light may have been disconnected and this is the back-up warning system

Air Bag Secondary Warning Chime
The air bag secondary warning chime warns that the air bag warning indicator light does not work correctly. The instrument cluster (IC) monitors the air bag warning indicator status internally and provides an air bag indication status report to the RCM. When a fault is present in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) with the RCM sending the instrument cluster (IC) an air bag warning indicator on request and a fault is detected in the air bag warning indicator, the RCM sends the instrument cluster (IC) a secondary request to sound the air bag warning chime.
Resurrecting an old thread. I have this issue on my 2000 F350 crew cab. Shortly after new, I had the passenger seat air bag put on a switch to disable it. It did not last long and I would get the idiot light on for the SRS. Never worried about it. Recently though I started getting the chimes as described for the air bag system. Now I do not have the idiot light but gained the repeating chimes. From a previous post in another thread by FTE/PARTS-GUY:
The air bag secondary warning chime inputs are:
Ignition switch RUN/START status.
Air bag warning indicator request communicated by the RCM to the instrument cluster (IC).
Air bag warning indicator chime request communicated by the RCM to the instrument cluster (IC).
Question I have is this repair something that can be easily handled by a DIYer? Replace the RCM wherever that is? Or is it best to farm this out to professionals? I have been doing work on my 89 Toyota Landcruiser but this is a horse of a different color. I want the air bags to work. Thanks.
