1992-1995 Flaresides

How rare are the 92-95 F150 Flaresides? There aren't very many around that I have seen. Also, what is the rarest of this generation flareside...Regular cab...extended cab...5.0L, 5.8L ...auto, manual...?

The 92-95 Flaresides are actually very rare. They made way more styleside trucks than they did Flaresides. I would guess that the rarest one would be a regular cab 2wd Flareside with a 6 cyl and manual trans.

We had a 1993 black Flareside regular cab 4x4 we bought used back in mid-2001. The Flaresides from '92-'95 are sorta rare. We traded our in back in 2005 on a new Super Duty. The dealer gave us $4,500 on a trade. They wanted $6,995 for it! It had the factory roller cam 5.0L(302) engine, automatic, and limited-slip 3.55:1 geared rear axle. We bought it from a used dealer who were neighbors of the original owner. Truck had 68,000 miles on it when we got it. It was like showroom new perfect. We paid $10,000 for it. It had, if I remember correctly, 84,000 miles on it when we traded it. It needed: two power window motors, and a good buffing of it's black paint, but ran great. We've seen maybe 10-12 Flaresides from 2001 on. A couple of supercab versions, too. A 5.8L regular cab would be something to look for. I think either starting in '93,or '94 year 351 engines Ford used a roller cam. I know our '94 Bronco had a roller cam 5.8L. The RAREST Flareside pickup would have to be the 1987 areo cabs, but with the old style steel rear fenders. Ford dropped the Flareside from factory production starting in '88 thru'91, but I've seen these year trucks with the later 1992 fiberglass(?) style Flareside box on them. In 1991 I remember seeing an article for a Flareside conversion from a company down South somewhere. Sorry, it's been so long ago, I don't remember where. You'd buy a 117" wheelbase regular box F-150, and they would convert your pickup to a Flareside. If you look on ebay, sometimes they have older Flaresides that they seem to want a lot of $$$$. If we held out more, or sold ours privately, we probably could've got another $1,000 for it because of the good shape it was in. It was quick little pickup , too. Only thing non-stock was it's dual exhaust system. It sounded real good when you got on it!

5 Flaresides? Cool! My wife and I have 2(both '92s). The second one in your list-'92 reg cab 2wd Nite 5.0 5spd sounds like a real keeper.

What is the possibility of having a Lightning Flareside in the '92-95 range?

The Lightning trucks from that era were only available with regular styleside short beds. Also, the Lightning was only available from '93-'95. There were no '92 Lightnings.

I heard ford was considering making the flareside bed on the 95 lightning but it never got beyond a few test trucks. Nothing stopping anyone from making there own though.Find a flareside bed with dual tank option and bolt her up. :0)

I'll be down to just 3 flaresides by the end of summer though. Useing the 93 and 94 as part trucks to fix the Nites. Think I'm going to cut the frames in the 93 and 94 and make a few flairside trailers, paint to match the Nites. Jace

Was there much difference between the normal F150 standard cab and the lightning? I mean was it a different interior, or just certain options, or was it just really a horsepower/performance issue?

The Lightnings had bucket seats with "Lightning " sewn into the seats. Other than that, I think the interiors were pretty much the same.

The Lightnings out handeled the Mustang GT on Fords test track by 2 seconds in 1993.I've heard but not sure if it's true,Ford used the F-250 frame as the base for the truck.More rigid I guess.
I have drove a few 93-95 lightnings.I was more impressed with the way it would hang a turn than the power.
As far as interior goes, lightning bucket seats,120 mph speedometer.lightning floor mats, and a special leather wrapped steering wheel.

Don't know how rare the flaresides are (I'd assume fairly), but I've still got my factory ordered '92 Electric Red/Silver reg. cab 4x4, 5.8, auto, 3:55 Fr & Rr Ltd. Slips (I'd have preferred 4.10, but you had to get the 302 and drop the fr. ltd. slip to get this), dual front shocks, manual transfer case and every other option I could pack in it. It was my first new vehicle and it's now got a whole 25,000 km (15,500 miles). Still have my all the paperwork including the window sticker.

I didn't plan it this way, its just that I'm just a little better at accumulating things than selling them and I've always had more than one vehicle to drive at the same time. I've got 3 other trucks to drive now.

Every now and then someone will see it sitting in my driveway and ask if its for sale, which I sometimes consider but then I realize I really couldn't stand the thought of seeing it driving around in a couple of years maybe all beat-up (I'm weird that way).

I do plan on putting a 4" Pro-Comp lift, Bilstein 5100's and some BFG 33 x 12.50s All-Terrains on it (I've had the kit sitting around for 3 years now), and maybe doing some engine upgrades. Nothing drastic.

Anyway, sorry for the semi-thread hijack, I just came across this post and thought I'd "brag" a little...............

Sounds like an awsome truck! Wish I could go back and order a new 1992 flareside Nite ;0) . Okay I', down to just 3-1/2 flare side now sold my blue 4x4 and not much left of the gold parts truck. Still have the 3 92 nite flaresides. There not going anywhere! Jace

Thats the first time ive heard they used f250 frames... Something is different about them becouse mine has stock panels riveted on the frame over the rear axle
