Hello all experts out there ! !
I bought a '78 F350 with a 400.
The previous owner must have lost the dipstick tube, because it now has a piece of copper tubing for a dipstick tube.
Can someone give me a dimension (up or down) from the valve cover flange to the top of a stock dipstick tube?
I need to figure out where the full line really is before I smoke my engine!

The easiest way to calibrate a dipstick is to change the oil and mark the 1 quart low and full line. Keep track of the number of quarts of oil you add.

 

Thanks, I was going to do that when I changed oil the last time, but I got sidetracked with the myriad of other things I was doing to get the truck roadworthy.

You can also go to a salvage yard and pull the stick and tube out of an engine.
