I'm impressed by your considerable knowledge of these autos. Have you ever heard of a guy named Greg Evans? He used to build very nice custom Ford trannies back in the day.

Mark- I'd like to ask you a question. I just ordered an F-450 with the TorqShift (4x4 4.30LS); I will be carrying a slide-in camper with a dry weight of 3530 which means a wet weight of maybe 1000 more. I have been considering installing a Gear Venders over/under auxiliary trans, if after driving it, I think I need it.

I had a 1985 F-350 with a manual 4 speed and really needed a 2 1/2 and a 3 1/2. It would either scream or lug going up the mountains.

I'd love your thoughts on the over/under.
I've heard, but haven't checked it out as I'm not in the market, that the over/unders are not rated for the max gross combined towing weights that the 450 is capable of. That may not be the case in your situation with the slide-in.

There seriously is no call for name calling or for being insulting.

Gregg and I wrote back and forth several times. I was at the plant that he worked (or works? I don't know his status at Ford) at several times, but never was able to meet up with him. As far as I know he is still building transmissions and valve bodies.

I agree, that's why I do not participate in such activities.

I have one of his VBs in my truck. It was a great mod. He hasn't been around the community in a while. Last I heard Jasper was using the name he had built up "Monster Box" to sell tannies under a license from him. When that happened quality seemed to take a nose dive. Since then most people now use BTS trannies.

Thank you both for the feedback on the Gear Vendors unit.
