PI swap?

Is it possible to do a head swap and put in the newer PI heads in my old 1999 non-PI v10?

I know that the intake manifolds are different on the PI engines. Most performance shops can do it b/c there are mustang owners that have the swap done.

The pistons look to be the same, but you'd need the intake, exhaust manifolds (they are different for some reason) and all the sensors and the PCM (different tune - could get a custom one though).

Yeah, I think it's doable. But a huge amount of work.

Some people have modified their '99 and gotten more than a stock 2000-2004. I don't think it's quite the same torque curve, but you get the idea.

Well, I am in the market again and looking at the swap option. I have noticed a slight lowering of the coolant level in the last 2000 miles and I can smell coolant in the exhaust on a cold startup. If i have a cracked head or a bad gasket I do not want to put the doggy heads back on. At 146K miles It is time for a timing chain so I might as well pull both heads and the intake and upgrade if I can.

Timing chains are good for 300K+ if the engine is maintained well.
