2wd to 4wd suspension

I just bought a 78 F-250 2wd. I would like to know what, if any 4wd suspensions would work and how difficult would it be to change it to 4wd?

is it a regular cab? If so its gonna be alot easier to swap your body onto a 4wd frame. If you must keep your frame it will be a decently long and difficult task. Its been done but nothing is a "bolt up" deal

what about just the suspension? It's a regular cab- long bed. I paid $400 for the truck and could get a front axle fairly easy. the conversion is something that would be nice but I want the clearance more than anything. at least for now lol

Well nothin is a direct bolt up. And if you use the 2wd frame youll need at least a 6" lift for the front differential to clear the 2wd crossmember

Your best bet is to find a 78/9 F-150 4wd adn snag the frotn axle, radius arms and all the related front suspension. Setit up like that and swap 8 lug outers on the front. Theres a guy here that did it and has a sweet truck. Check out the "pics of your 4wd" thread in this forum. He shows the before and after of his truck. I cant remember his user title off hand but hes got a sweet truck

Ted has a very nice truck, but he will be the first to admit that this was not a swap for a beginner.
Not trying to prevent someone from jumping in with both feet, only trying to prevent someone from getting in a little too far, and getting discouraged. Lots of work ahead.
