My repair guide is trying to tell me that I have to remove my alternator to gain access to the passengers side valve cover.....Personally I dont really need to (plus it would be a pain in the *** to take it off). Surely I can safely cut this corner right?
Rubberduck didnt list it in his version...so that has me thinking that my chiltons has a few extra steps to make removal easier.

No need for all that crap. There is pleanty of room. Like I said, go ahead, get the chiltons, but it won't get close to what I told you. LOL

it is very straight forward. valve covers off, pretend they are spark plugs, and back goes the valve covers. don't be intimidated- very simple job.

it does take a little while though- and they go by the book. the turbo would probably come off and so on... with shop rates, parts, etc. i don't think 700 bucks is over the top.

but... you can do it yourself... for way cheaper!

Sounds good guys, I will be tearing into it pretty soon. It is downpouring here now so probably not until later this week.

I have complete faith in rubberducks glow plug removal system, the chiltons is going to be left inside the apartment.

Good to hear man. You'll see once you get in there. It's really not that bad. Venturing off into the unknown is nerve racking sometimes. But we are here to support you. Good luck man.
