434 stroker:Rod length

I need to know the rod length for the 434 stroker motor. Does anyone have the actual length?
Much appreciated.

The rod length in a 434 is 6.658 inches. I think that it's a 5.4 L Modular rod.

how far can you go?

correct my flawed logic...

460 has a deck of 10.3 - 400 has a deck of 10.3 - rod lengths are similar.

4.5 in. stroke cranks are readily available for 460's with a 6.7 rod

my flawed logic is that since the decks are similar there should be room for a 4.5 stroke crank in the 400...? A 4.250 fits not problem...so how far can we go before we run out of room?

I have heard of 400s stroked to 492 cubic inches. That must be +0.60 bore and 4.75" stroke.

But can they be bored to 60?, i thought it was only safe to do it to 40 due to cylinder wall thickness....

The 351Cs had thinner walls than the 351M/400 blocks. They couldn't be bored +0.060. It is a good idea to sonic test the walls on a 351M/400, before boring +0.060.

that is good news

so 4.5 is no problem...agreed? Room for more...even better.

Do the 4.5 is quite doable...with BBF or BBC rods in 6.7 or 6.8 lengths...parts should not be a problem.

with CHI heads and the new 400 intake...this would a potent combo. Who is up for a 460C?

Taking yours .030 over was a good call. Finding pistons for an .060 over was a PITA. Also i have no more rebuilds left out of my block, when it goes, i have to find a completely new engine, block, etc.... You should still have another rebuild out of yours.

It may be doable, but I would look into the 'no problem'. There is more to it than selecting cranks, rods, and pistons.

BTW, a 434 could be a 440 with a +0.060" bore.
