I live in San Diego and towed a 2200 lb pop-up with it, maybe 6000 miles over the first two years I had the (2001, AWD, 3.0L) Escape. Easy to pull...but...

It ate up the brakes. Bought an F150 SuperCrew and I always haul the trailer with that now. No more brakes problems.

It is VERY hilly around San Diego.

Then you are probably illegal in most states. Your trailer weighs ~800#, Im guessing. The add gas (at 7#/gal) and gear in your boat....

Many states are 3K limit I think for no brakes

SC has no inspection on trailers.

2800 pounds fully loaded, fuel and beer!

If I wasn't selling it, I would put brakes on it.

Ford manual for this vehicle (AWD Escape, 2001, 6 cyl) allows a 2000 lb trailer. Again, pulls it fine, stops fine, just eats brakes.

Hello Tcesni and Everyone,
Tcesni mentioned that all escapes have the tranny cooler and the tow package adds a engine oil cooler.
I'm thinking of buying an 2009 and the salesman and sales manager I talked to today said there is no engine oil cooler. But they were not 100% sure.
Can anyone post a picture from the service manual or any literature that identifies the engine oil cooler?

Thank You

tcesni is new and has a neutral reputation at this point.
I'll do some digging, but it is possible that with the new engine and transmission the engine oil cooler is no longer needed (at least in Ford's opinion).
