oil in valley 4.6

I have oil in the valley below the intake on a 97 e 150 4.6l. it has been running down the right side of engine and on to starter then lower part of bell housing on to floor. cant see up far enough to tell where it is coming from. ideas anyone? also what is the sensor in the middle of the valley for? engeneers are so intelligent potting a sensor in a place that you cannot get to without major disasembly.

Welcome to the forum

Head gasket is your oil leak and that is the knock sendor under the intake manifold.
