What would you take for parts to Alaska

Next summer I will be going to Alaska on a 3-4 week trip covering around 8k-10k miles. I would like to get some ideas on what kind of parts you would take with you and what kind of things you would do to the truck before you go. Thanks for all the info By the way I have a 2000 F350.

My wife and I spent 3 months touring Alaska summer of 06. We towed a 15,000 lb 5th wheel the whole way. Parts are easy to come by even if towns are far between. Enjoy the trip. so much to see and do. stop and eat some fireweed, watch the sun not go down, keep a tally of the moose and bear you see. Barney

Made that trip many, many times!!! Aside from the normal things for travelling long distances, be prepared to buy a new windshield when you get back home. I can almost guarantee it!!! The trucks make a game out of seeing how many windshields they can take out on their runs!!

Make sure you take your ID, passport, birth certificate and anything else to prove who you are. And whatever you do, don't take a hand gun!!! They don't give two hoots about rifles, but will confiscate your pistol at the border.

Oh, do you know what B.C. stands for?? Bring Cash!! You think fuel is expensive here,,, just wait!! Ha! Ha!! Ha!!!

That is actually a good idea on any long trip into remote areas. My 02's dont give you any notice when the alt dies. Usually find out when batteries are almost dead, radio dies, dash quits, every idiot light comes on just before the computer craps out and the motor dies!

Take a couple of booster boxes if you can. It takes two to start if you ran your batts low before changing out the alt.

I like to always have a little bag with electrical stuff, extra fuses and the sort.

Driven it 20 times. Think I've lost a windshield 17 out of the 20. First trip was in '71 when it was still pretty remote. Parts of it today are in better condition than the NY Thruway. Never have had a flat time, even when it was still 1200 miles of gravel. Never have carried a spare anything except money. That is all you really need because you can't predict what is going to go wrong. Used to be you were sure to lose one or more headlights due to flying rocks, but those days are behind us. Just have a good time and going through Canada try to use a credit card for everything because they will screw you on the exchange rate.

exchange rate is good right now, it was a few years back when us canadians would get screwed with the exchange going to visit the states. as far as i am concerned, anywhere you go, a dollar should be a dollar!! JMO
