Oh yea, I forgot about that e-brake issue, that was shot before I even met her and had to get it fixed by the next inspection to the tune of over $400 for a replacement from handle to wheel cylinders.
One of the other dads in our Boy Scout troop had an 01 that was pushing 200k last time I talked to him, although I remember he had to have his engine replaced around 100k (Duratec)--reason unknown.
One of my son's friends bought one with over 100k a couple years ago and it looked like a new truck, drove great.
One "secret" of the Escape is that it is based on the last-gen Mazda 626 platform, which means that it does have a good car-based chassis. Kind of like the '91-up Escorts, which were the same chassis as the Mazda Protege. The Focus was based on the old Euro Focus chassis, but the early US Focuses were problematic although they've ironed out most of the issues. Ironically, the current Mazda3 is based on the new-gen Euro Focus chassis (along with the Volvo C30)--whereas our Focus is still the old platform.
So in a sense, the Mazda is a tight joint American/Japanese design, fully built in the US.
2006 xlt v6 with 93000 miles on it and a few minor things pass door actuator went bad and having issues with the cruise but the v6 runs strong nice little suv
145,000 on my 2001 XLT V6 4WD. Changed out the factory plugs 2 weeks ago still getting 21mpg on 80 mile per day commute. Pejeeper: the coolant light was always on til I unplugged it. 2 dealers couldn't fix it.

I just ignore it and keep the reservior full. Not spending the $$ to replace the whole thing.
206,000 on my wife's 2001 6cyl automatic. We replaced the tranny at 130,000, I don't remember the price, might have been $3,000. Otherwise it's been routine.

We're approaching 130k miles....and the tranny has been "slipping", it feels like it hangs up for a second between gears while shifting into overdrive after reaching cruising speeds. It has been doing it for atleast 60k miles though and through atleast 2 trans oil flushes. $3k will be better spent on down payment for an '09 in our situation.
Ours was sudden and harsh. We had to have it towed to the shop.
The guy who ran the tranny shop was a former Ford mechanic; he told us he had to call his buddies at the local Ford shop several times to figure out how to drop the trans.
i am at 51000 with my tranny being replaced at 46500 miles. wife still thinks that it's not going to last and that we are going to have alot of problems with it. other than that i am really happy with it. she has a corolla that is why she tells me that it's going to have alot of problems
