in my opinion the 5.5 looks better at stock ride height but if you put at least a leveling kit and some big mudders then the 6.5 looks better. but any long truck looks better with a lift

Buy the 6.5 so you can actually use the truck like it's supposed to be used. The 5.5' bed is useless for carrying anything other than groceries.
I need to carry an ATV so it's a 6.5' bed for me.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I'd rather have an extra foot of bed space than arguing about what looks better.

my opinion: you're buying a truck because you need/want the bed, so why not get the most bed you can get? If you don't need/want the bed, get an SUV. 6.5' gets my vote.

i dairy farm so i have items that you wouldn't want in the cab of your truck, due to the smell. if it weren't for those items i'd probably have an suv. i am also a huge car/truck/suv fan so looks are important to me. a supercab with 6.5 is the most functional truck because i rarely have more than one passenger. however the supercab needs a level kit and i think that sacrifices ride quality. the only reason i question my decision of a screw 5.5 is the new crew is 6 inches longer and the bed difference is only 1 foot. in person the new screw 6.5 my look better because the 5.5 is shorter than the cab (i.e. tundra). and why do we need crew cabs bigger than the bed anyway.

i've got the 5'7" bed and i like it, it definately does more than carry groceries, but i'll never have one this short again!! you never realize how much that extra space is useful until you don't have it!!

Exactly!

I was originally planning on getting a Screw/6.5ft box configuration for my next truck, but now the truck is too long and the advantages that I would have gained are gone. The biggest advantage IMO with the current Screw -- short front doors. the Doors on my Scab (which are the same size as the front doors ford is offering on the Screw for '09) provide plenty of room for getting in and out of the truck, but are a PITA when you have to open your door in a confined area. Shorter door = opens wider.

I am well aware that my beliefs most likely run contrary to the general publics opinion -- and to make money, Ford has to give the majority what they (think) want.

I guess I'll be sticking with the Scab/6.5ft box config...

My last truck was a 2002 FX4 Screw with the 5.5 bed and my ATV's rear tires sat on the tailgate. I thought I was able to get buy with the small bed but it was just too small. My 2005 is a Scab for the bed size. My next one will be a Screw With the 6.5 bed. Figures Ford made the 6.5 bed optional one year after I bought my truck.

There was a time whe the 6.5' was the SHORT box...........

I think they both look proportional, but I'm used to 8F box with ex cab or crew.

I currently own a 2002 Screw and love it, except for the 5.5' bed. I would love to have the 6.5' bed so if you ever camp you can stay in the back. The 5.5 is just to short for my 6' frame. Also the 6.5 will allow you to carry most ATV's and motor cycles with the tailgate closed. Mine has to be open to fit either of these. So if you use it for these kind of things go with the 6.5', if not go with the 5.5' for looks.

I'd agree the front doors look to big in proportion to the rear doors and with the 6.5 bed makes it worse. Ford should have made the doors a little closer in size, but that most likely wasn't so cost effective. To me it's kind of the reverse of the Tundra. The new Tundra has some huge rear doors, with the fronts being considerably smaller/shorter.

Question

Nope, I don't like the longer front doors on the 09 S-Crew w/6.50 bed!
Does the 09 S-Crew >6.50 bed now have a over all longer length and wheelbase than the prior years or did they just make the rear doors shorter?
07 below...I may buy next week.

The front doors are longer but overall I think the truck has a nice balance to it. Hopefully, mechanically it's as good as it looks.

That's going to be the hard part.
